A roll of fabric, film or paper is loaded onto the axis, the machine will roll cut or slit this fabric roll ( film roll or paper roll ) into a small tape roll in designate width.

for packaging food:  

large rolls of plastic film such as biaxially orientated polypropylene (BOPP), paper or adhsive tape is produced in large diameter roll for maxium efficiency.

the roll are then slit by a tape slitting machine into small rolls of the size to used on the packaging machine.

large rolls of fabric or cloth can be slit into various width tape to used as the piping or decoration on the apparel.
